DR. BOY Injection Molding Machines: Company and Product Overview
A practical overview of DR. BOY horizontal, electric and vertical injection molding machines, 2K add-on units, controls and machine selection.
DR. BOY injection molding machines cover compact horizontal presses, electric models, vertical machines and add-on units for multi-component production. Dr. Boy GmbH & Co. KG builds its machines in Neustadt-Fernthal, Germany. The company traces its injection molding business to 1968 and the original BOY 15 with a two-platen clamping system. Today, its machine range gives molders several ways to match a press to the part and the production cell.
The horizontal range starts with the BOY XS E at 100 kN of nominal clamping force and extends to the BOY 125 E at 1,250 kN. Between them, the manufacturer lists the BOY 20 E PRO, 25 E, 35 E, 50 E, 60 E, 80 E and 100 E. That spread allows a team to begin with the mold, projected area, resin and shot size rather than select a machine by exterior size alone.
The BOY 100 E shown here illustrates the horizontal family. A specification still needs the exact injection unit, screw, tie-bar clearance, mold dimensions and any handling equipment. Model availability and options should be checked for the intended market and production date.
BOY also lists 35, 50, 80 and 100 Electric models. These electromechanical machines sit alongside the servo-hydraulic range rather than replacing every application in it. The useful comparison is the actual cycle: required injection profile, tool movement, part removal and peripheral equipment. Ask for the drive and process configuration proposed for the part, then compare it with the same mold on a suitable hydraulic model.
For insert molding and other work that benefits from an accessible vertical mold area, BOY lists the XS V, 25 E VV, 35 E VV and 60 E VV. Tool orientation and loading method matter as much as clamp force here. A vertical press may simplify placing an insert, but the finished cell must still account for guarding, ejection and operator or robot access.
BOY's additional injection units include the 2C M and 2C XS/2C S for two-component molding. Their suitability depends on the first machine, mold gates, material pairing and process sequence. Treat the auxiliary unit and tooling as one engineering decision rather than an automatic upgrade to any existing press.
The manufacturer describes EconPlast as a plasticising option for machines with screw diameters from 18 mm. It is intended to support more efficient melt preparation; the actual energy use depends on the material, screw and process. BOY's Procan ALPHA 6 control provides a configurable touchscreen interface and an integrated OPC UA server, with optional EUROMAP interfaces for connected production. Confirm the installed control version and communication options when specifying an automation or data connection.
Send the supplier a part drawing, material grade, target shot weight, mold dimensions, cavity count and production volume. Include insert placement, two-material requirements, handling and any data interface. BOY can then narrow the machine, injection unit and equipment around the actual tool and cycle.
